How to Participate

Participation
The mission of Urban Sketchers Tacoma is to connect local on-location sketchers and show our city and region, one drawing at a time.

Participation in our monthly sketch outings is free and open to everyone, no matter the skill level, whether as guests, or as those who are committed to the mission and manifesto of the Urban Sketcher movement.

Tacoma Urban Sketchers share their drawings on different USk (short for Urban Sketchers) platforms:

The only requirement for posting on those online forums is that the drawings be done on location, from direct observation, following the spirit of the Urban Sketchers Manifesto. Beginners with no artistic background whatsoever are welcomed and encouraged to attend our outings and to become Urban Sketchers.

Administration of Urban Sketchers-Tacoma
There is a leadership group of co-administrators of USk-Tacoma whom each have a portfolio of responsibilities they fulfill on behalf of Urban Sketchers-Tacoma. The number of responsibilities each co-administrator performs depends upon the amount of time they have to contribute to USk-Tacoma. The portfolio may be large or small, but the well-being of our group depends on the tasks in each portfolio being fulfilled. New co-administrators will be added as volunteers come available and the needs of the group require the additional portfolios.

Blog Correspondents
Participating on the Urban Sketchers-Tacoma blog is by invitation. Sketchers who post on USk blogs globally are known as "Blog Correspondents." They are invited based on the fact that they agree to attend outings regularly, post their sketches on the above site or sites a minimum of once a month, and offer a narrative of the circumstances in that time and location, displaying high quality skills as visual storytellers. They also agree to give feedback online to other sketchers. We believe diversity of styles is important. Our goal is to make the blog as diverse, interesting, and  informative as possible.

  1. I would love to participate but I do not drive. Is there a way that I might carpool with someone?

    1. First, where do you live? Our members are spread out all over Pierce County and South King County. Many of our outings are in the city center of Tacoma, reachable by public transport. Please contact me at mkbuike at comcast dot net

  2. Hello, My name is Jenni Denison, I am currently a interior design student in Tacoma and was browsing art for a project that I am working on for school and found your sketches of the Tacoma area. I am so inspired by what I have seen and would love to use some of it in my proposal for a memory care facility that I have been assigned. While this is is only a educational project, I hope to have others see your work and be inspired as well. I also hope, someday when I have more time, to join in the activities of your group.

I would love for someone to reach out to me at denison4758@student.cptc.edu.

Thank you so very much for your art!

    Jenni Denison
