Sketching at 7 Seas

We had a foggy beginning to a sunny afternoon at 7 Seas in Gig Harbor.  There were many subjects to choose from.  We were able to sketch near the deck heaters, on the float and inside from windows.

Meet at 11:00 am Thursday, October 8 near the front entrance.  Since 7 Seas does not open until 11:00, we will meet an hour later than usual.  This venue offers plenty of parking, views of the harbor, a food truck and beverages.

Sketchers will have several choices of subjects, indoors and out.  The staff and patrons are welcoming to Urban Sketchers.

We had perfect weather to sketch and paint at the Gig Harbor waterfront.  There was an abundance of subjects to choose from.  Today was our last day of the season to partner with the Peninsula Art League Plein Aire painters.  Thanks to Liz for the photo.  Welcome Paul.

Meet at 10:00 at the street level picnic area.  Street parking is available adjacent to the park.  This park offers a shaded lower level, public pier, restored net shed, views of the harbor, beach access and public restrooms.

We had a wonderful day to sketch and paint at Rosedale Gardens.  There were plenty of gardens, paths, plants, trees, pottery, structures and sculptures to choose from.  We partnered with the Peninsula Art League Plein Aire painters.

Please park in the upper lot in order to save customer parking.  You are welcome to off load your gear near the gift shop if needed.

Meet at 10:00 am near the gift shop.  Rosedale Gardens has beautifully landscaped grounds, covered areas, open areas, walking paths, a gift shop, plants, pottery and sculptures.  

Public restrooms are available.

Great morning to sketch at Narrows Park

We had a grand time sketching at Narrows Park.  There was plenty of beach fun, backdropped with an incredible view of the Tacoma Narrows Bridge.

Meet at 10:00 in the parking lot.  From the upper level, there is a small, covered picnic shelter with views of the bridge.  There will be a short, a bit steep, walk down the hill to sea level.  This park offers scenic views of the bridge, a small creek and waterfront access.  Portable toilets are located at one corner of the parking lot.

We will be partnering with the Peninsula Art League Plein Aire painters.

Great weather to sketch at Skansie Brothers Park

Many were ready for a good weather day to sketch.  There were plenty of vendors setting up for the market, the historic Skansie netshed, metal sculptures and the waterfront at Gig Harbor for inspiration.

Meet at 10:00 near the Jerisich water fountain.  These parks offer scenic views of the harbor, historic Skansie Brothers Netshed, a covered pavilion and waterfront access.  The Jerisich Public Dock is located adjacent to the Skansie Brothers Park and offers public restrooms, a viewing platform, picnic tables and public dock.

The Gig Harbor Farmers Market will be setting up in the morning and opens at 1:00.  Street parking is available adjacent to the park.  Additional parking can be found a couple blocks up Pioneer Way, west on Judson Street near the Post Office.

We will be partnering with the Peninsula Art League Plein Aire Painters.

Sketching at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium

We had a busy morning to study and sketch at the Zoo and Aquarium on a dry May morning.  Dozens of school buses delivered students on fieldtrip day.  There were plenty of animals, sea life, plants, structures and people to sketch.

Due to traffic detour, use the Mildred Street Entrance.  Meet at 10:00 near the Zoo entrance.  Parking is free, but there is an admission fee.  Daytime tickets can be purchased online at the Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium website for a reduced admission fee.

For anyone interested, we're planning to stay a bit longer at the park for a picnic lunch after the throwdown.  Location to be chosen that morning.

We had a wonderful morning to sketch on a warm, spring day.  The Met Market was busy with shoppers and sketchers, both indoors and outdoors.

We had a great morning to sketch on a blustery March day.  The Gig Harbor Vintage Aero Museum is a wonderful hangar to visit.  We had plenty of vintage aircrafts, automobiles, bicycles, pedal cars, canoes and motorcycles to draw inspiration from.

We had a great group of sketchers at Java & Clay Cafe.  The cafe was busy with lots of sketchers, customers, coffee, baked goods and wonderful views of the cafe interior and exterior views of the harbor through the windows.
