September outings in Tacoma

Edit 8/26:  swapped locations!

Thank you to Loretta for the alert on a large event happening Sept 9 at Reconciliation Park!

Saturday, Sept 9:
Owen Beach

Note change of date from 1st to 2nd Saturday.  Changed by consensus polling to avoid Labor Day holiday.

5605 N. Owen Beach Rd., Tacoma, WA 98407

Within Point Defiance Park...follow signs to Owen Beach.  Even if it's busy on a Saturday, the parking lot is huge

This park was recently renovated  with buildings and sculptures as well as views of the bay.  There is even a concession stand now!

Meet here at 10 am.  Throwdown (sharing) will be at 12:30 at this same place.

Wednesday, September 20: Chinese Reconciliation Park

Meet at 10 am in the parking lot.  We'll sketch until 12:30 and have a throw down (sharing) near the entrance of the park.

Though the map shows it on Ruston Way, the City of Tacoma website lists the address as:
1741 N Schuster Parkway, Tacoma, WA 98402.  It can be tricky as you have to turn into a dirt lot and then under the overpass.

"The park design is a mixture of traditional Chinese scholar’s style gardens and beautiful natural waterfront setting. The Chinese Reconciliation Park is a 4 acre park that is located at the southern end of the 1.5-mile Ruston Way waterfront along Commencement Bay, and is in the proximity of the early Chinese settlement that was burned down during the tragic expulsion."

"A "Ting" is a Chinese pavilion.  The Fuzhou Ting was donated by Fuzhou, China, one of Tacoma's Sister Cities, in support of our Chinese reconciliation efforts."
