On Dune

Peninsula, that is. We met at Dune Peninsula Park this morning. Dune author Frank Herbert grew up in Tacoma. He came up with the idea for Dune while living across Commencement Bay from the ASARCO smelter. The super fund site of the smelter has been cleaned up and is now Dune Peninsula Park, named for his famous novel.

Given, that, I just had to draw the sand worms! They are a sculpture called "Littler Makers" by Nichole Rathburn cast in bronze in 2019. I sketched two different views and painted the stone walls differently.

We might have recruited two new members for other chapters. People stopped to talk to us as we sketched. One man is from the Carolina's and used to draw. Another was visiting from China. He doesn't draw but became enthused by what we showed him.
